I am a feature writer and author, chronicling many of the thousands of aspects of English life that go together to make this country such a rich society to live in today.
My latest book (November 2020) is Life under Lockdown – a (not too serious) diary in verse, March–July 2020.
It is a small hardback book of poems and is really designed as a gift book and a book to dip into. The publisher, Pie Powder Press, describes it as: “a chronicle of ups and downs from laughter to tears...there’s something to match every mood in the emotional rollercoaster represented by life under Lockdown in this extraordinary year.”
Further details are available under the Books and Articles section.
Other than books my areas of special interest over the years have included English parish churches (on which I have written two books), maintaining and restoring historic buildings, local and building history, domestic building and architecture old and new, building conservation issues, and all aspects of small businesses.
Since 1989 I have written for, among other publications, The Guardian, The Times, The Financial Times, the Independent, The Daily and Sunday Telegraphs, The Mirror, The Sunday Mirror, The Evening Standard, Old House Journal, The Building Conservation Directory, Country Living, Country Life, The Countryman, Country Ways, English Heritage Magazine, Homebuilding and Renovating, In Britain, Listed Heritage, Saga Magazine, Thatched Living, Period House, Period Living, LandScape magazine, Choice Magazine, Move or Improve, Twenty-five Beautiful Homes and Location, Location, Location.
